Empowering Education Through Technology — Creating lasting impact in Kenya

In partnership with local schools, RaiseFunds set up computer labs, trained teachers, and created a maintenance plan. Over six months, student computer literacy scores improved significantly and teachers began integrating digital tools into daily lessons.

The program also included printer access for exam prep and administrative workflows, reducing manual overhead. Future phases will expand connectivity and introduce coding clubs for secondary students.

Beyond the labs, we ran teacher upskilling sessions focused on basic troubleshooting, lesson planning with digital tools, and safe internet practices. Teachers now prepare worksheets digitally, reuse templates, and share materials across grades, saving precious classroom time.

To keep the labs sustainable, each school formed a student tech committee that handles daily checklists, device hygiene, and a simple ticketing log for issues. A rotating ‘lab captain’ model builds ownership while ensuring that problems are documented early and escalated quickly.

Connectivity is still inconsistent in some areas, so we adopted an offline-first approach. Content libraries and tutorials are cached locally, and devices sync when bandwidth is available. This keeps lessons running even during network outages and reduces data costs.

We also emphasized inclusion. Afternoon open-lab hours and guided study groups help students who don’t have devices at home. Sessions specifically encouraging girls’ participation increased confidence with basic apps, typing, and research workflows.

Next, we plan to extend the program to additional partner schools, introduce beginner coding clubs with project-based learning, and track simple impact metrics like device uptime, average weekly lab hours per student, and teacher adoption of digital lesson plans. These measures will guide scaling while protecting quality.
